OLI ORGANICS

Re-branding for a well established coconut oil business in Sri Lanka, including a new business name in Tamil language to replace ‘R&G Organics’. I chose the name Oli Organics. Oli means light, and this company certainly works with the light by donating a significant portion of their profits to help improve the lives of Tamil women.

For the label design, my client was keen to stand out from the plethora of coconut oil brands on the market whose labels are typically minimalist and predominantly white.

We were inspired by the luscious, rich colours and patterns found in Sri Lankan women’s saris. These saris are often paired with gold jewellery, so I used gold foil in the logo and the woman’s sari, which ties in nicely with the gold lids.

PUREMELT CHOCOLATE

Brand identity, packaging design, signage, and product photography for chocolatiers who handcraft mouth-watering chocolate from the highest quality organic cacao beans. The vibrant logo has been very successful with the healthfood purists in the ‘Rainbow Region’ of Byron Bay, while also enticing new customers.

SANTOS ORGANICS

Santos Organics commissioned me to create an illustration for their Save the Bees campaign, which was then hand screen-printed locally onto organic canvas tote bags.

Santos also commissioned me to paint a mural in their popular garden cafe.

YESTERDAY STORIES

Six promotional images – each tailored to their target audience – to advertise a film competition for a brand new app that features short video histories of interesting areas and people. I also designed posters for print and digital, social media assets, and contributed to the website design.

WILD BEE

Branded identity, business cards and website design for a new gardening business in The Blue Mountains that supports women via meaningful employment in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

SPROUT LOVERS

How to make sprouts exciting? By using fun colours and patterns to entice new customers to try these delicious, organic fresh sprouts.

I aimed for a vibrant and clean design, to reflect how eating Sprout Lovers’ high quality sprouts makes you feel.

HEALTHIE MOVES

The director of Healthie Moves Yoga Therapy commissioned a logomark based on a fairy wren painting she saw of mine on exhibition.

The blue colours and the grassy reed tie in nicely with the traditional indigo-dyed Japanese curtains and other decor in her beautiful yoga studio.

I have loved designing Monk Space’s brand identity, website and marketing materials. The watercolour blues were inspired by the proximity of their yoga studio to the beautiful blue waters of Sydney Harbour.

THE REGIONAL FOOD LOOP

Logo design for a start-up business doing the good work of securing food supply in regional areas of Australia. After visiting her ancestral homeland of Mongolia, my client chose the Mongolian endless knot symbol to represent the concept of loops — the connectivity between local food growers, sellers and consumers that The Regional Food Loop fosters. For the logo I used the colours most commonly found in fruit and vegetables, and hand-drew the lettering on paper before digitising it.

The cards, printed on recycled stock, and the signature, feature a watercolour illustration of mine.

PRIVATE ART COLLECTOR

A pre-eminent Australian private art collector commissioned me to photograph and catalogue his extensive collection of museum-quality tribal artworks and sacred art objects.

I photographed hundreds of beautiful tribal and sacred art objects, including early Australian Aboriginal bark paintings, African and Nepalese ritual masks, an Egyptian priest figure from 1800 BCE, fossilised megalodon teeth, Tibetan Buddhas and thangkas, Tahitian crowns, Indian miniature paintings, Oceanic totems and hundreds of other sacred art objects.

I also catalogued the entire collection, giving each object a unique identifying code and sourcing provenance information.

Next I built a CMS portfolio site for showcasing and cataloguing purposes (identifying features have been removed in these screenshots for privacy).

SPECK

A series of four album covers that I designed and illustrated using a combination of hand-cut paper collage and digital collage.

Each album represents one of the four seasons. The four front covers form a whole picture when viewed together. 

LUCIE THORNE

I have designed several album covers for wonderful singer-songwriter Lucie Thorne. Over time, Lucie's music evolved from folky origins into a more sophisticated, contemporary sound; the progression of styles in the album covers reflects this changing sensibility. I enjoyed being able to incorporate my own painting into Where Night Birds Call, and silver foil into Bonfires in Silver City.

BALLINA SHIRE COUNCIL

Ballina Shire Council commissioned me to design a series of large street banners for the towns of Ballina, Angels Beach, Alstonville, Lennox Head and Wardell.  

The project specified engaging each community to contribute towards these designs, so I arranged for adults and elders to visit local schools and talk with children about the history of each town. The children asked questions and many lovely and inspiring stories were shared. 

The children then responded by painting images from these stories.

I then collaged snippets and textures from the children's paintings to create the final designs. A humpback whale for Lennox Head, fish for Fishery Creek, a duck for Alstonville (formerly known as Duck Creek Mountain), a mermaid-angel with surfboard earrings for Angels Beach, Las Balsas raft for Ballina River, and dolphins and sugarcane for Wardell.

BILLY BLUE COLLEGE OF DESIGN

During my time as in-house designer at Billy Blue College of Design I designed hundreds of lecture slide presentations for use in the classroom and online. I liaised with the heads of the Communication Design and Digital Design departments, and multiple teaching staff. The project involved type-setting dozens of academic documents, sourcing imagery, illustrating diagrams, and researching proper image attribution.

Client • Roundabout Theatre

Roundabout Theatre company make delightful, absurdist roving theatre for arts festivals and events. The vibe is fun, the humour charming and the costuming stylish retro. 

Amongst other projects, Roundabout commissioned a printed postcard and a series of promotional illustrations in a handmade, lo-fi style. I used a combination of origami, watercolour on paper, photographs of the performers and vintage photography to create digital collages.

ROUNDABOUT THEATRE

A booklet to promote Roundabout Theatre’s immersive children’s theatre show Colours created for the ArtState conference.

A postcard at the front and back sandwiches three colourful cellophane windows that can be fanned out so light passing through them creates beautiful new colour mixes — a playful and poetic metaphor for exploring differences, diversity and inclusion.

It was a delight designing printed collateral for musical duo, High Ace.

Story Week 2020

I absolutely loved working on this social media campaign, designing squares and stories for Instagram and Facebook featuring mostly black line drawings by the super talented Rosie di Wu. Story Week is an awesome annual performance poetry festival. For the social media campaign I designed stills, as well as animated screens for live online performances.

TINPAN ORANGE

Beloved Australian band Tinpan Orange commissioned me to design this album cover and booklet, featuring two of my original bird paintings. It was an absolute pleasure to work with these delightful and super talented musicians.

FIRST EDITION

Branded identity for a new business that functions as a patron to the arts, with a focus on supporting musicians. It was a pleasure working with my client and creating something with a handcrafted, pictorial aesthetic.

SPIRIT PUBLISHING

One of many design projects I have worked on for Sydney-based greeting card company, Spirit Publishing. This particular card range features the exquisite floral arrangements of Grandiflora in Potts Point, photographed by Gary Heery. I did the product photography of the printed cards.
